Being a Northwest native, there’s something about the Oregon/Washington Coast that’s in my blood. Whenever I travel overseas, one of the places I most want to go when I return home is the Oregon beach. (It helps that on United Airlines, one of the 3 images they play in a slideshow on every seat in the plane is of Haystack Rock at sunset….) So it’s always a delight to have the opportunity to photograph for my clients at the beach.
Chris and Kim know the appeal of the Oregon coast, and as a result planned their destination wedding in Pacific City, at the Cottages at Cape Kiwanda. Pacific City is one of the Oregon Coasts hidden gems; it was a great idea.
During the ceremony, held on the back deck of the condo overlooking the Pacific Ocean, I headed upstairs to photograph down from the balcony. As I passed through the living room, I noticed that one of the candle holders–made of wood–had caught fire. After taking a quick photo, I snatched it up, took it outside, and doused it. (This was reminiscent of another wedding I shot several years ago, where a young lady’s scarf caught fire from a candle; I noticed it, hopped over to her, pulled it off, and stomped on it. You can read more about my fire-brigade skills in my ISPWP interview.)
It was a beautiful day, with a delightful family. We created some stunning portraits on the rocks, played in the water, twirled sparklers and blew bubbles, made s’mores, and had an overall wonderful time together. Chris’s twin daughters assisted me frequently, and Molly even took a great portrait of me at work.
