They fell in love over teeth. They really did. Swear to God, it wouldn’t have happened had a dentist chair and a serious set of chompers not been involved.

Ryan loved being in the armed services–it was challenging, intellectual, a family heritage…but he knew as thriving as he was that something was missing. All the ambition in the world can’t fill the place of a woman in a man’s heart. When his routine dental cleaning came along, the board was set…he was about to fall in love with those sparkling eyes behind the hygienist’s mask.

Jenn, now heading to be an oral surgeon, has that breathless grace that communicates perfect ease and confidence in who she is. A sense of assuredness in her step and the freedom to be downright goofy when appropriate. When they’re together, 2 halves have found a whole. He makes her laugh at herself, while her presence near his side suddenly straightens his shoulders and makes him stand taller.

Ryan and Jenn, thank you so much for including me in your day. What a beautiful merging of two lives together.  Many, many blessings to you both!

After dinner was served at Portland’s Summerfield Golf Club we snuck off for these golden hour photos. 5 minutes is all we had, you two rocked it.

Wedding Photographers Portland OregonFor several years past, Katie has been a model for me, my muse during my fashion design days. She had a way of capturing the essence of my brand and to this day brings a connection I have with few others. This shoot was a thank you and congratulations for her own recent wedding to her high-school sweetheart Adam. We loved the afternoon light on this freezing February morning (the brave souls) and we explored new spots and camera techniques while trying to stay warm!

Thank you, Katie and Adam!

We love books!

Creating wedding storybooks for our wedding clients is one of our favorite things.  After working with a bride and groom on their wedding photography–often for over a year–it’s a real pleasure to create a book that tells the story of their day.  It’s a photo essay, and it’s an heirloom that they’ll pass on to their children.

In the digital age, people often forget about how beautiful and precious a quality book is.  Yes, it’s fun to put images on FaceBook and share them with friends.  But people often don’t understand that having 700+ wedding photos on their computer is difficult to organize, and doesn’t make for a good story.  They’re beautiful pictures (because we took them!), but staring at a computer screen is just not the same as holding a book in your hands.

You can pick up a book from your coffee table, sit back on on the couch, and relive the memories any time.  Your friends and family can do the same.  They’ll also appreciate the quality craftsmanship of the book: the library binding, the thick pages that lay flat, the leather or photographic cover….  Looking at a book is a different experience that looking at a screen.  It’s luxurious.

Each of our books is customized to your tastes: you choose the book style, the cover material, and the images that go into it.  Then we get to work, designing and delivering a completed book to you.

We offer two different styles of wedding storybooks: the Coffee Table Book, which has thinner pages and a slim profile; and the Classic Album, which has thick pages and a heftier profile.  They also come in 2 sizes: 10×10 and 12×12.

Here’s a sample of our photo essay page layouts, printed on real photographic paper.  Notice how the pages lie flat and smooth, with no seam or gutter: This is our 12×12 Classic Album: with thick pages, and a photographic cover.  The page designs are the same as above, but the book itself is thicker and heftier. Our Classic Album also comes with the option of a Crystal Cover: beveled tempered glass over a photographic cover design.  It’s stunning:

We offer 10×10 Classic Albums, as well as the 12×12, shown here together.   You choose from several cover options, including a photographic cover, and a selection of leather colors: Our books are library-bound, beautifully crafted books, with thick, durable pages: We also offer Parent Albums, which come with a padded leatherette cover, and include 20-70 images, printed full-page.  And as with all our books, you choose what photos go into them.  Parents love them!

We also offer other books for our portrait photography clients.  Feel free to invite yourself into the studio at any time, to see these beautiful books in person.  You’ll love them, we promise!

Winter in Oregon is often a wet and soggy affair.  But for Sarah and John’s December wedding, we ended up with a lovely, dry day in which to photograph.  While cold, we still had a great time, both indoors and out.  Especially considering we were at the lovely Oregon Golf Club. Sarah’s maid of honor–her sister Becca–was kind enough to hold a light for us (that lovely backlight in the image above).  So we gave her some credit by adding her in to the photo below:

John and Sarah’s wedding party was a lot of fun to work with.  Composed of both siblings and friends, they took good care of Sarah and John, and also made sure everyone had a lot of fun.

This was the first time we’d seen this: for their guestbook table, John and Sarah asked everyone to write them some marital advice on little cards.  Each card was marked with a different anniversary, from their first, to some decades from now.  On each anniversary, they plan to open the cards and read the notes.  A great way to remember the people at your wedding, the vows you took, and the collected wisdom of your friends and family.  Brilliant.

John’s sister had a baby–her first–just 7 days prior to the wedding.  That didn’t stop her from being a bridesmaid, and staying for the whole party.  We were totally impressed! John and Sarah, thank you for letting us tell your love story!  We were honored to be with you.  Many blessings on your new life together.  Congratulations from your friends at FritzPhoto!

Kendal and Eric’s vintage wedding was held at Camp Colton, an 85-acre retreat at the foothills of the Cascade Mountains. Their ceremony took place in a gorgeous historic chapel constructed with dark wood walls and pews, and the bridal party dance the night away at the old lodge just down the gravel road. Eric had a slicked-to-the side debonair hairdo and Kendal had bright red lipstick, long dark eyelashes and a graceful 1940s-inspired dress. Nestled between the trees, old cabins reminiscent of summer camp contributed to the nostalgic vibe of the day, and a lake, appropriately accompanied by a red canoe on its shore and a little dock edging into its waters, completed the picture-perfect location. The first time I met Kendal was at the FritzPhoto studio open house in the spring. She and another makeup artist from AJ’s Hair and Makeup were doing free demonstrations of their work, and I got excited the day I learned that she would be coming in for a consultation. It’s always great being able to work closely with our vendors, and it’s equal great when they support us, too!

Stephanie and Joe held their wedding at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, in Beaverton, Oregon, surrounded by a very large and supportive family.  After the ceremony, this crew actually put themselves in place for family photographs before we even stepped in!  Obviously, they’ve been to a lot of weddings together.  🙂

After the Catholic mass, we all made our way to Portland’s World Trade Center.  This glass and steel building, on the waterfront in downtown Portland, has to be one of the most beautiful and unique indoor wedding venues in Portland.  Not only is it visually striking, but the beams are covered in Christmas lights, giving the space a lovely warm glow.  Just the right space for family and friends to celebrate Joe and Stephanie’s new marriage.

Joe’s towncar got stuck in traffic on his way to the church.  I thought their text conversation was priceless:

Many great vendors go into making a wedding day like this so wonderful:

Holy Trinity Catholic Church and Portland’s World Trade Center were the wedding and reception venues.

Flowers and decorations were provided by the exceptional Lora Losinger of Sophisticated Floral Design.

DJ Anthony from Sound Choice Entertainment kept the party happening.

And of course, wedding photography by us, Fritz Photo.   If you’re in need of an award-winning wedding photographer in Portland, Oregon, or destinations worldwide, give us a call.  We’d love to tell your love story.

“Fritz Liedtke: Contemporary Photography Balanced by a Bohemian Lifestyle”

I think that’s the first time Fritz has ever been called a Bohemian….

The new issue of Professional Photographer (December 2012) features an 8 page article on his balance of fine art and commercial photography.

“What’s most valuable to
me is my time. And with
that time I can make art, be
with my family, and travel.
I just didn’t want to get
caught up in a life where
I’m working 60 hours a
week and waiting until I
retire to have fun and make
work that’s personal.”

The article talks all about this and more. You can read a pdf of the article online.

A second, one-page feature also gives a glimpse into some of his favorite photographic tools, including the Lensbaby Edge 80, Lightroom, my 4×5 field camera, and more. Pick up a copy today!

Portland Oregon Wedding PhotographyThere is such a peaceful settledness about the two of them, Mark cracks his wry smile and makes us all laugh with one of his stories. Christina quietly describes her research that brought invites and acclaim from Stanford. Both are so genuine and real, an instant friendship formed between us. It was with great joy that I had the honor of photographing their covenant of love on an early Saturday morning. The sun was streaming across the river at Kelly Point Park in Portland, as they declared their vows while friends and family watched on the riverbank. She smiled up at him, the beautiful simplicity captivating everyone present. After the kiss and many hugs and happy tears, we took a few moments to capture the light and these lasting memories. Abernethy Center Wedding PHotography

Congratulations to Megan and Eric!  We had a great time photographing both their engagement portraits back in the spring, and their wedding in the fall at the lovely Abernethy Gardens, in Oregon City, Oregon.  From the little details (check out the wedding jewelry) to the bridesmaids in their cute black dresses, it was a beautiful day.  The bridesmaids even had a little plan: they each had a sticky note hidden in their hands; as they walked up the aisle and past the groom, they flashed them their notes, which read successively: “Here Comes Your Sexy Awesome Bride”.  That got a big smile out of Eric.

DJ John Ross, telling it like it is…

You’ve got to love Rachael and Jon’s block party wedding!  They literally got married on their doorstep and had a raging dance party on Gantenbein Avenue, complete with fireworks and the most daring of guests jumping over them. However, my favorite aspect of their wedding was how they incorporated as many fantasy and science fiction references into their ceremony as possible, going so far as to quote J.R.R Tolkien in their vows while an orchestral accompaniment of Final Fantasy VII played in the nearby garden. If you don’t know what I’m taking about, suffice it to say that Rachael and Jon fully embrace their geekiness. They even met for the first time and fell in love while playing videogames at Ground Control. Talk about a perfect match!

Here at Fritzphoto we love working with weddings like Jon and Rachel’s!  They shared their love story in their own way, unique and individual, just like us!  And We Love to Tell Love Stories!
